If you are running a deicer that is fixed you don’t need to turn the filter off, but a deicer isn’t needed. The water is going to get very cold even with a deicer. No foods for your fish either.
I would highly suggest shutting them down and removing pumps and filters from the water here. Be sure the water has drained from them as well. (I’ve had them freeze and they are a bit expensive to keep replacing)
No the water won’t turn to crap since your fish will be in hibernation. Small to no waste since they won’t be feeding. Colder water does not allow for decay of plant and leaves that have gotten in the water.
They will be fine until spring

leave it all running it will keep filtering even when freezing over and the algae wont over run the pond i have done this for 2 years and my grandad did this for 30 years+
